SVU On Demand Webinar 121024: The Mind of the Sonographer: Beyond the Physical Strain
SVU On Demand Webinar 121024: The Mind of the Sonographer: Beyond the Physical Strain
Overview:
The objective of this webinar is to bring awareness to mental health of the vascular sonographer and the importance of addressing this topic without shying away from the fact that many challenges do exist daily. The goal is to place just as much importance on a healthy mind and mood as we place on our physical bodies and remove the stigma of mental illness. Healthcare as a whole, can be a challenging yet rewarding field, however in today’s society, mental health is becoming more and more important to address. In the world of sonography specifically, there is a correlation between light deprivation and the effects this may have on the sonographer. It is important to recognize “burn out” and find ways to cope with the daily challenges to improve performance and job satisfaction. The vascular sonographer is required not only to have the technical skill of finding disease and being the eyes of the physician, but also being an advocate and active listener for the patient. The sonographer in turn absorbs a significant amount of emotional strain that can truly affect their mental health. This talk will focus on advocating for the mind of the sonographer.

Objectives:
Upon Completion of this course the learner should be able to:
Highlight the mental health aspects of the field of ultrasound and healthcare as a whole
Correlate the effects of light deprivation and provide tips and tools to combat this phenomenon
Educate the sonographer on workplace stress and ways to cope
Educate employers on ways to provide beneficial support to the sonographers and recognize the multifactorial challenges that may exist
