Volume 49, Issue 4 Winter 2025 JVU 494-200 | Carotid and Vertebral Flow Velocities: Relationships with Cognitive Function in Wisconsin Native American Population
OVERVIEW
The Winter issue of the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound (JVU) includes two original research articles and one case report. The first research article reviews carotid and vertebral artery flow velocities and their relationships with cognitive function in an Indigenous population. The second research article reports on an assessment of the internal mammary artery before coronary artery bypass grafting. The case report reviews lower extremity edema and iliac vein compression following a prostatectomy.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After reading and studying the papers used for CME in the Winter 2025 issue of the Journal of Vascular Ultrasound, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the primary risk factor for dementia.
2. Describe the Montreal Cognitive Assessment tool.
3. List the arteries that primarily supply blood to the brain.
4. Identify “high risk” factors for stroke in Native American populations.
5. Describe the anatomical location of the internal mammary artery.
6. State the preferred conduit for coronary artery bypass grafting.
7. Explain why the right internal mammary artery is larger than the left.
8. Describe the pulsed Doppler waveform characteristic of the internal mammary artery.
9. List the symptoms associated with iliac vein compression.
10. Explain May-Thurner syndrome.
11. List the risk factors associated with iliac vein compression.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Physician, Vascular Technologist and Sonographer members of SVU should find participating in this educational activity valuable.
