Volume 49, Issue 2 June 2025 JVU 492-100| Vascular Ultrasound Evaluation of a Pseudoaneurysm of the Superficial Temporal Artery: Case Report
This issue contains a review on factors affecting erectile dysfunction; the clinical importance of carotid intima media thickness and coronary artery disease; a review on intima media thickness and elastography in children; risk factors for stroke and micro embolic signals with transcranial Doppler; and a case report on a pseudoaneurysm involving the superficial temporal artery.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After reading and studying the papers used for CME in the June 2025 issue of the Journal of Vascular Ultrasound, participants will be able to:
1. List the vascular mechanisms that contribute to erectile dysfunction.
2. List the common factors that contribute to erectile dysfunction.
3. Explain how the superficial vascular system aids penile perfusion.
4. List the longitudinal scan planes used for obtaining carotid intima-media thickness measurements.
5. Explain where the carotid flow divider is located.
6. Explain how atherosclerotic plaques develop in the arterial wall.
7. List the vessels used to measure carotid intima-media thickness.
8. List risk factors associated with childhood obesity.
9. State the phase of the cardiac cycle when obtaining intima-media thickness measurements.
10. List the parameters used on the ultrasound machine when measuring the intima-media thickness.
11. Explain the techniques used to measure intima-media thickness with ultrasound.
12. State the transducer frequency used for transcranial Doppler.
13. Describe the criteria used to identify micro embolic signals.
14. State the anatomical windows used to access the intracranial arteries.
15. State the treatment for a pseudoaneurysm of the superficial temporal artery.
16. State a significant complication of an untreated pseudoaneurysm.
17. Compare the characteristics of a true aneurysm verses a pseudoaneurysm.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Physician, Vascular Technologist and Sonographer members of SVU should find participating in this educational activity valuable.
